Steak pizzas with horseradish cream

Pizza Sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 2 clove cloves garlic, crushed
Horseradish cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoon horseradish
  • 2 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Steak pizzas with horseradish cream
  • 800 gram rump, sirloin or skirt steak
  • 2 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 large pizza bases
  • 2 1/2 cup mozzarella, grated
  • 1 1/2 cup parmesan, grated
  • 1.5 punnet cherry tomatoes
  • fresh oregano leaves (optional)
  • 2 1/2 red onions, sliced
  • fresh chives or basil, to serve

    To make pizza sauce, combine all the ingredients and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

    To make horseradish cream, combine all the ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.

    Preheat oven to 230°C (220°C fan-forced). Place an oven tray or pizza stone near the bottom of the oven.

    Bring the steaks to room temperature, then brush with oil and season with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large frying pan over a high heat. When pan is hot, add steaks, two at a time. Cook for a couple of minutes until one side is browned, then turn over and do the same to the other side until cooked medium-rare or to your liking. Leave on a board, loosely covered with foil. Rest steaks for 10 minutes before slicing thinly.

    Spread some pizza sauce on a pizza base. Scatter with cheeses, tomatoes, oregano and onions, then season with salt and pepper.

    Place pizzas on the rack just below the middle of the oven. Bake for 7-10 minutes until cheese is bubbling and base is crisp.

    Top with steak, add a drizzle of horseradish cream and scatter chopped herbs over the top. Season with salt and pepper.
