Limoncello

Make a batch of your very own Limoncello liqueur to give to family and friends as exciting Christmas or birthday gifts, or enjoy a glass on your own to wind down after a long day.

Ingredients

Limoncello
  • 6 lemons, sliced zest, without pith
  • 1 litre vodka
  • 3 cup sugar
  • 600 millilitre water

Method

    Combine zest and vodka in a sterilised sealable bottle. Store in a cool, dark place for 1 month. Shake container every few days.

    Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Stir over a low heat 3-4 minutes, until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to medium; bring to the boil. Cook, without stirring, 5-6 minutes, until the syrup thickens.

    Strain vodka through a fine sieve and discard zest. Add to sugar syrup, stirring to combine. Pour into sterilised airtight bottles; seal.

Notes

Try using oranges or grapefruit.
