Hot buttered rum cocktail

Mixology master Frankie Walker says Hot Buttered Rum is great for sharing – you can make up a batch in advance. It’s also a classic cocktail, with its roots very much in Jamaica.

Method

1.Put all ingredients except butter in a saucepan and heat gently. Stir well, ensuring sugar is dissolved.
2.Meanwhile, warm a heavy jug or similar pouring vessel with hot water, to prevent it breaking when hot drink is added.
3.Strain hot rum into the heated jug. Pour equal amounts into tumblers or tea cups, then add a small knob of butter to each serving.
