Homemade baked beans
Pan-fried in a hearty, sweet tomato sauce, these homemade baked beans are perfect served atop a piece of golden, crunchy toast. Top with crispy bacon to create a cafe-style breakfast or brunch at home.

Homemade baked beans
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 175 gram middle bacon, rind removed
- 1 large brown onion, finely chopped
- 2 400g cans cannellini beans, rinsed
- 400 gram can diced tomatoes
- 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- thick toast, buttered, to serve
Method
Homemade baked beans
- 1Heat oil in a large frying pan over moderate heat. Add bacon. Cook, stirring, 3 minutes, or until crisp. Transfer to a heatproof plate. Chop bacon coarsely.
- 2Add onion to pan. Cook, stirring, 3 minutes, or until soft. Add beans, tomato, sauces and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, 18-20 minutes, or until mixture thickens slightly. Serve beans on toast. Top with bacon.
Notes
You can use any type of canned white beans for this recipe. Try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra spice.
