Fairy wands
- 125 gram butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- 1 cup plain flour
- 3/4 cup icing sugar
- 3 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 drop red food colouring
- fairy dust sprinkles, to decorate
Method
Fairy wands
- 1Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan forced. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Using an electric mixer, beat butter and caster sugar in a small bowl until light and creamy. Add egg and beat until well combined. Sift flours over butter mixture; stir to form a soft dough.
- 2Kids Step: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, then knead until smooth. Roll dough between sheets of baking paper to 7mm thick. Using a 7cm star pastry cutter. Cut dough into stars. Re-roll, then cut dough to make 14 stars.
- 3Arrange 14 paddle pop sticks on prepared trays.
- 4Kids Step: Using a metal spatula, carefully lift stars and place one biscuit at top end of each paddle pop stick; press gently to secure.
- 5Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven. Cool on trays
- 6Kids Step: Sift icing sugar into a small bowl; stir in juice. Tint icing with food colouring, then spread over biscuits. Decorate with fairy dust sprinkles and leave to set before eating.
Notes
No star cutter? Make a sturdy cardboard template. Great for party lolly bags.
