  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 6-8 herby beef sausages
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, skin on, grated
  • 1/2 cup fruit chutney
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tbsp cold water

  • 1
Heat the oil in a large frying pan and brown the sausages. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • 2
Into the same pan add the onion and cook until soft, then add the grated apple and cook until soft.
  • 3
Stir in the chutney, stock, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. Return sausages to the pan. Simmer for 15 minutes or until the sausages are cooked through.
  • 4
Mix cornflour and water to a smooth paste, stir into pan and simmer gently until thickened.

This recipe makes enough sauce for six serves. Try swapping the sausages for meatballs, or removing sausage from casings and breaking into balls to cook. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice and a green vegetable – or try cauliflower rice for a low-carb option. Use as many sausages as your family tends to eat.
