Dessert hot cross buns

Wonderfully sweet and fluffy, these hot cross buns are delicious served warm drizzled with maple syrup and fresh fruit. This dish makes a delicious breakfast or dessert.

Dessert hot cross buns
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 60 gram butter
  • 4 hot cross buns, halved
  • sliced banana, to serve
  • strawberries, to serve
  • maple syrup, to serve

    In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla. Dip hot cross buns into egg mixture, turning to coat.

    Heat butter in a large frying pan on medium. Cook buns in two batches 2-3 minutes each side, until golden.

    Serve with banana and strawberries. Drizzle with maple syrup.


If preferred, use fruit bread or brioche in place of hot cross buns.
