Saucy beef with tomato

  • 1 cup (250ml) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp dry sherry
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 400 g rump steak, sliced
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) rice bran oil
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1 large red onion, cut into rings
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 3 green onions, cut into 5cm lengths
  • steamed rice, lime wedges, to serve (optional)


Saucy beef with tomato

  1. In a jug, combine tomato sauce, worcestershire sauce, sherry and sugar. Toss beef in half of rice bran oil and season with pepper.
  2. Heat a wok on high. Cook beef in batches for 30 seconds, until just browned. Remove from pan and set aside.
  3. Heat remaining oil in wok. Stir-fry garlic and red onion for 30 seconds. Toss through tomato and tomato sauce mixture and bring to boil. Return beef to wok and toss to coat.
  4. Reduce heat to medium, cover and simmer for 2 minutes. Toss through green onion. Serve with steamed rice and lime wedges, if desired.
